We'll...
This song started as a competition entry for The Sunday Post, (Scotland's leading Sunday paper, Home of Oor Wullie and The Broons, originated, as it happens in Dundee!).
The competition was to write a song about William Wallace.
And that song quickly became a staple during our, (Jock and I's), Scottish Themed evenings of entertainment.
While struggling with the writing for the album, I knew I needed another, "Here's Tae Us! Wha's Like Us!?", song.
It was actually Jock who suggested I use this tune for one of the songs...
... not a bad suggestion!
lyrics
We came across the town,
men with little men of worth,
all the proud and loyal fans,
to this place of football’s birth.
This place of football’s birth,
where the sounds of battle rang
and we joined the boys in blue,
while we sang.
We raised our banners high,
up for all the world to see,
tears of joy within our eyes,
as we follow our Dundee.
We’ll follow our Dundee
and we’ll cheer them on to win.
Come and join the Dundee choir,
while we sing…
(chorus)
We’re coming down the provie road
and into dens is where we’ll go,
the greatest team we’re going to see, and cry
Come On Dundee !!
We’ll field an argentine
and some boys from italee
and our local lads are grand,
as we’d wish them all to be.
We’d wish them all to be,
playing hard and playing fair
and we’ll make the whole wide world,
stop and stare.
So come on down to dens,
for it’s not too far away
and we’ll watch with gladdened hearts,
as they show us how to play.
They’ll show us how to play,
how to score and how to win
then the celebrations all,
can begin!
(chorus)
Now we’re singing all the more,
For it’s Dundee on the ball
and we’ll cheer them further on
as we watch the other’s fall.
We’ll watch the others fall,
as we score another goal.
See the power of Dundee,
take it’s toll !
(chorus x2 to end)
