The tune is an ancient folk song.
The lyric is my own.
Again, for those un-versed in Dundee F.C. folk lore;
Ivano Bonetti was a player/manager brought in suddenly to the club, who provoked a whirlwind of change and brought the team attention from all over the world.
Cannegia (Claudio) was an Argentinian International who was part of a World Cup winning team that, after a request from Bonetti, came to play at Dens.
Incredible times.
The lines in the chorus relating to The Saint's and United are just bragging about how many we put past them, (our closest rivals), in games that season!
Bovril is a meat extract that, with the addition of scalding hot water, is made into a hot drink.
This is drunk almost exclusively at Scottish football matches and at no other time!
The Pie (meat) is the staple diet, at football matches and elsewhere, of the modern Scotsman... sadly.
lyrics
Tae Ivano Bonetti, t’was Cannegia spoke
tae come tae den’s park and tae sign for the folk
who capture oor hearts,
every time that we see,
those footballing wizards, of bonnie Dundee.
(chorus)
Come give me a Bovril, come buy me a pie,
we’ll follow Dundee till the day that we die!
We gave The Saints five, we gave United three!
We’re the boys in dark blue, and we’ll follow Dundee.
There’s men from Italia and from Argentine,
the best football players that you’ve ever seen!
There’s lads from the south
and there’s lads from the north,
to show all of Scotland just what they are worth!
(chorus)
So we’ll all join together on each Saturday
tae cheer on the Dees every time that they play
so tremble all other’s,
you’ve still yet to see,
the best is tae come from the boys of Dundee
(chorus x2 to end)
